Superintendent Jackson announces staff changes

There are some new faces in the Lauderdale County Board of Education District Office, as a result of the system losing several long-time educators to retirement this year.

Technology Coordinator Kate Grammer, Federal Projects Director Joan Hartman and Instructional and Materials Supervisor Sylvia Winbush each opted for retirement at the end of June, with over 100 years of combined service in the Lauderdale County School System.

“I appreciate and admire the contribution that these three ladies have made to the children of Lauderdale County,” said Superintendent Phillip Jackson. “Their dedication and professionalism is a model for all educators. I am looking forward to working with their replacements. They are enthusiastic and energetic folks who will help advance us forward as we move toward a new generation of leaders in our school system."

Ripley High School’s girl’s basketball coach and assistant principal Shawn Kimble has filled the position as Technology Coordinator. Kimble has taught for eight years at RHS, specializing technology classes and managing the school’s website and school newspaper. He holds a bachelor of science degree from Murray State University and a master’s degree in educational leadership from Trevecca Nazarene University.

Samantha Culver has taken over as Federal Projects and Title I Supervisor. Culver comes from Ripley Elementary School where she has served in the classroom, as the Fast ForWord Computer Lab Manager and the Site Coordinator for the Project L.E.A.D. after-school program. This is Culver’s 19th year in education, all of them serving Lauderdale County. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Lambuth College and a master’s degree in education from Cumberland University.

Halls Elementary School Assistant Principal Phillis Barlow has stepped in as Instructional and Materials Supervisor. Barlow has been in the Lauderdale County School System for 35 years and has served as assistant principal of HES for the last 20 years. She holds a master’s degree from the University of Tennessee at Martin.
