Student Resource Officers added to RHS and LMS
With the passing of the new budget, two new Student Resource
Officers will be added to the faculty at Ripley High School and
Lauderdale Middle School.
While the addition of the officers may bring peace of mind to
parents and educators who worry about school safety, performing
the duties of law enforcement officials are not the only
responsibilities given to SRO officers working with students in
the Lauderdale County School System.
“They are not there just to be the police,” said
Superintendent of Schools Phillip Jackson. “They are there to
help educate students on law enforcement and gang-related
education.”
The officers will fit right in at Ripley High School, which
currently offers curriculum for studies in Criminal Justice and
is working with Dyersburg State Community College to allow
students to earn college credit in DSCC’s Criminal Justice
program with the completion of RHS classes.
