Busy at the Lauderdale County Bee The Lauderdale County
Spelling Bee was recently hosted at Halls Elementary School with
first- through third-place winners awarded in both the first-
through third-grade and fourth- through eighth-grade categories.
Phillis Barlow was the spelling coordinator, with Jean
McDearman of Halls, Sue Toles of Henning and Tonia Estes of
Ripley serving as judges.

Winners of the first- through third-grade category were
Ripley Primary School student Marnecia Srackangast, daughter of
Michael and Markisha Srackangast, winning first place; HES
student Jack Kent, son of Jennifer Kent, earning second place;
and Ripley Elementary School student Anthony Portis, the son of
Bettie Portis, placing third.

Winners of the fourth- through eighth-grade category included
HES student Lauren Crews, daughter of Christie Sherron and Jay
Crews, winning first place; Lauderdale Middle School student
Jamonte Balton, son of Ella Henning, earning second place; and
RES student Ambria Maxwell, daughter of Crystal Maxwell, placing
third.
