Bank of Ripley brings Old
McDonald to RPS

First-grade students at
Ripley Primary School are reading, singing and swinging about
the animals in the Big Book Old Macdonald Had a Farm in Music
Class. The book and masks were awarded the school’s music
department through the Bank of Ripley mini-grant program. The
students are having fun recognizing the names of the animals and
the sounds that each animal makes. Ms. Tonya Nelson's class
poses for the photograph. The classes are under the direction of
Mrs. Marion Meibaum.
Ripley Primary School hosts Parent
Orientation/Registration
RPS Principal Al Jones welcomes parents to the school’s recent
Parent Orientation and Registration. After some information from
Jones, the parents spent time touring the school and meeting
their children’s teachers.

Some children
attending were anxious to show off their new school clothes and
supplies. Bright purple polo-style shirts go along with the
system’s new dress code and promote school spirit, as well.

Students were
treated to free books for attending the event.

Families are pictured enjoying the evening, touring the
classrooms and visiting with the teachers.
Summer break brings school improvements
While students were sleeping in and teachers were
making the most of their summer break, members of the Lauderdale
County Board of Education were busy making improvements to
schools throughout the system.
At Ripley Primary School, teachers and students
are cool and comfortable with improvements to the HVAC system
despite climbing temperatures outside.
More Pre-K classes at HES and RPS
At the beginning of the 2007-2008 school year, a
total of 160 preschool children will be served through the
Lauderdale County School System’s Pre-K classes.
With two new classes provided by funding from the
Governor’s Education fund, Lauderdale County now has eight Pre-K
classes serving students who would not normally attend private
daycare programs or Head Start classes.
“Just in the two years we’ve had the Pre-K
program, we’ve seen such success with these students,” said
Superintendent of Lauderdale County Schools Phillip Jackson. “By
the time they finish the program, they are right on target to
begin kindergarten. These same children, without the preschool
program, would have been enrolled in Level One or Level Two
kindergarten classes, classes for children who are not ready for
kindergarten.”
Pre-K programs are provided in the Lauderdale
County School System at Halls Elementary School and Ripley
Primary School.
