Color me green!

Ripley Primary School Level 3 Kindergarten classes began this
year with exciting color days. Each day, the students wore the
Color for the Day, brought a color item to share with their
class and ate color day snacks.
On green day, the boys and girls were very excited when the
Ripley Ag Center brought its big tractor. Mrs. Pam Reviere’s
class is pictured with the tractor.

The color days ended with the students releasing colorful
balloons, which they hoped would travel to “Balloonia Land” from
the book written by Audrey Wood.
RPS has more room for preschoolers

Ripley Primary School has added two new Pre-K classes to its
red wing this year with the help of additional funding from the
State. The new classes create a total of four classes that offer
preschool children in the area a big advantage when they begin
kindergarten.

Preschool students are taught by Melissa Saye, Aline Dyson,
Ginny Matthews and Jennifer Kissell. The bright and roomy
classrooms are set up to host center time activities including
art, computer, manipulatives, dramatic play and blocks, while
leaving quiet spaces for circle time and naptime activities, as
well.

RPS Pre-K students stay busy and are pictured at just a few
of the activities they participate in throughout the day.
RPS students discover science first-hand

Students in Mrs. April York and Ms. Jenny
Brandon’s second-grade classes at Ripley Primary School have
released the first butterfly of the new school year.

Black swallowtail butterflies have laid eggs on
the parsley in the school’s butterfly garden and second-grade
students who collected caterpillars from the garden have been
able to witness the stages of development first-hand. They
released their first butterfly back into the garden last week.
Students in Mrs. Debbie Brewster’s, Mrs. Deborah Jones, Mrs.
Laura Dial’s, Mrs. Angela Wilson’s, Mrs. Lisa Hyde’s, Mrs. Lynn
Maner’s, and Mrs. Samantha Dunavant’s second-grade classes are
also waiting for their chrysalises to develop into butterflies,
with more caterpillars being collected for other classes to
observe, as well.
Travel buddy returns home

Students in Ms. Jenny Brandon’s second-grade
class at Ripley Primary School recently welcomed home their
travel buddy. Aramoos the Mooskateer arrived home just in time
for the end of the school year, on May 15, and shared all of the
souvenirs that he collected during his journey with his
classmates.
Aramoos began his school year in Ripley at the Labor Day Parade,
where he met the Mayor of Ripley, Jon Pavletic, and watched the
Ripley High School Marching Band perform. He then began his
travels across the country.
While Aramoos visited with classes in Tonwonda, N.Y.; Seattle,
Wash.; Henderson, Nev.; Perry, Okla.; and Natchez, Miss.,
throughout the year, the class received buddies from these
states. During the year, the class wrote letters, took
photographs and drew pictures for the visiting travel buddies
before sending them on their way.
The students learned about geography, letter writing, regional
customs, and animals throughout the project. The experience
created a lasting impression on the students as they learned
about children just like them throughout the United States.
