Taking care of Teddy

Ripley Primary School recently held its annual Teddy Bear Clinic
for all second-grade students. In the program organized by RPS
counselor June Bates and school nurse Michelle Brazier, students
bring a favorite teddy bear to school in an exercise that
teaches them to take care of a loved one who is ill. Stations
offer tips on bandaging a wound, taking temperatures and
hand-washing. The students were also given information on
different careers in healthcare with one-on-one discussions with
nursing students from Beth Street’s LPN class at the Tennessee
Technology Center.
Birthday at the zoo

Students from Jenny Brandon’s second-grade class
at Ripley Primary School spent a beautiful, chilly day at the
Memphis Zoo for their teacher’s birthday. They saw hungry
giraffes, playful penguins, colorful reptiles, and some very,
very noisy monkeys. They had a special treat from a zookeeper
who did a demonstration with a large turkey vulture.

The students have been studying the earth’s
continents, animal classifications and habitats. The Memphis Zoo
provided the perfect experience to enhance their learning. Also
at the Zoo that day were the classes of Mrs. Debbie Brewster,
Mrs. Laura Dial and Mrs. Debbie Jones. All of the students had a
wonderful time and will continue to learn from the experience
throughout the rest of the year.
