Pavletic chosen as RPS Teacher of the Year

Ripley Primary School has named first-grade teacher Deanna
Pavletic as its Teacher of the Year for the 2006-2007
Happy Birthday, Dr. Seuss!

Students at Ripley Primary School were visited
by guest readers in honor of Read Across America, celebrated on
March 2, the birthday of Dr. Seuss. Ripley High School students
and Maurice the Tiger are pictured reading to students in Jenny
Brandon’s second-grade class. Other guests included teachers
from RHS, nursing students and other members of the community.
Other events are scheduled for the month of March, which has
been named Reading Month.
Second graders adopt butterfly

Students in Ms. Brandon’s
second-grade class at Ripley Primary School were surprised in
January by an unexpected visitor. A butterfly hatched in the
classroom with snow flurries falling outside just before
President’s Day. The students hoped that the butterfly would
survive over the long weekend, so they consulted with Susan
Farris, Ripley High School biology teacher and assistant
principal. The class decided to leave the butterfly with some
cotton balls soaked with Gatorade. The students also provided a
Valentine lollipop they labeled, “ABL” for “already been
licked.”
“Shadow” meets butterfly

Happily, the butterfly survived the
weekend and the class released it in 60-degree weather the
following week, but not before they introduced their new pet to
Shadow, a travel buddy from Tonawonda, N.Y.
Winter Fun

Ripley Primary School students and their families are pictured
enjoying the school’s recent winter carnival.

LMS and RHS students manned many of the booths
at Ripley Primary School’s recent winter carnival, including
face-painting
Ripley Primary School was recently the place to
be with a Winter Carnival hosted by the school’s Parent-Teacher
Organization. Games, fun and food were on hand in the RPS gym
and cafeteria for the hundreds of students and family who
attended. PTO President Jessica Myers organized entertainment
for the carnival as well as a second grade poster contest before
the event.
Lauderdale Middle School and Ripley High School
students did a fantastic job running many of the booths, with
over 15,000 tickets sold. Organizers are looking forward to
making the carnival an annual event.
