Danger on the high seas

Students in Mrs. Diane Akins third grade class at Ripley
Elementary School recently found out if a pirate’s life is for
them after completing a unit on the life and times of the
historic outlaws. At the end of the unit, the students dressed
as pirates, searched the seas for ships and ate hardtack.
RES Excel students use media
in class

Students
in Mrs. Kathi Bridges’ Excel classes at Ripley Elementary School
are using the newspapers in class to find interesting current
events. The students use the stories in the papers to share with
each other and to spark class discussions.
RES hosts scavenger hunt

Ripley Elementary School students and their
families enjoyed a scavenger hunt at the school’s recent open
house. Students were given clues that led them around the
school, acquainting both the students and parents with the
school, administrators, facult, and staff. Prizes were given at
each stop, with Curriculum Coordinator Memory Gaines and
Principal Phyllis Elkins signing the completed “Clue Sheets” and
awarding the students with a “free 100 coupon” for their
efforts.
RES hosts AR Night

Ripley Elementary School recently hosted AR
Night for students and their families. During the evening, the
school opens its library to allow parents the opportunity to
come to the school and read AR books with their children. The
students are also given a chance to test on the AR books that
they have read.
