Danger on the high seas

Students in Mrs. Diane Akins third grade class at Ripley Elementary School recently found out if a pirate’s life is for them after completing a unit on the life and times of the historic outlaws. At the end of the unit, the students dressed as pirates, searched the seas for ships and ate hardtack.

Students in Mrs. Kathi Bridges’ Excel classes at Ripley Elementary School are using the newspapers in class to find interesting current events. The students use the stories in the papers to share with each other and to spark class discussions.

RES hosts scavenger hunt

Ripley Elementary School students and their families enjoyed a scavenger hunt at the school’s recent open house. Students were given clues that led them around the school, acquainting both the students and parents with the school, administrators, facult, and staff. Prizes were given at each stop, with Curriculum Coordinator Memory Gaines and Principal Phyllis Elkins signing the completed “Clue Sheets” and awarding the students with a “free 100 coupon” for their efforts.

RES hosts AR Night

Ripley Elementary School recently hosted AR Night for students and their families. During the evening, the school opens its library to allow parents the opportunity to come to the school and read AR books with their children. The students are also given a chance to test on the AR books that they have read.
