Top scientists represent RES in regional
competition

Ripley Elementary School recently sent several
science fair winners on to regional competition. Third-grader
Brody Myers, fourth-grader Melody Culver and fifth-graders
Benjamin Elkins, Kobly Herron and Chris Bockholt were the top
scientists representing RES for the region title.
RES salutes students with the Top GPAs

Ripley Elementary School recently held an awards
program to recognize students with perfect attendance, top AR
points, and the highest grade-point averages in their grades.
The student with the top GPA in third grade is Weston Conrad.
Katy Shellenback earned the highest average for fourth grade,
and Cody Cox earned top honors in the fifth grade.
Project L.E.A.D. students show Happy Feet

Ripley Elementary students enrolled in the
Project L.E.A.D. after-school program are learning about Happy
Feet. RES PTO President and marathon runner Jessica Myers led
the students in exercises and relay races and encouraged them to
drink plenty of water for healthy bodies and minds.
RES students improving math scores

RES Project L.E.A.D students recently worked
with Mrs. Gina Hendren on tips for improving math scores on
their TCAP tests. Ms. Hendren shared information with the kids
to help them use easy tips for finding the correct answers
quickly.
Fourth graders use mobile lab for TCAP
preparation

Students in Ms. Tressy Crutchfield's fourth grade class at
Ripley Elementary School are creating a portable computer lab in
their classroom using the school’s cart of Apple laptops. By
utilizing various Internet websites that feature activities and
lessons aimed to reinforce fourth-grade skills, the students
will gain aptitude and confidence just in time for TCAP testing.
The computers give the students another avenue to practice
skills while they learn to use the latest technology.
Destination Imagination travels to Milan
Middle School

The Destination Imagination team at Ripley
Elementary School recently competed in the regional tournament
at Milan Middle School. The team will travel to David Lipscomb
University in Nashville to compete at the state level in
mid-April.
RES hosts Parent Teacher Conference

Ripley Elementary School recently opened its doors to the
parents and families of the students its serves with its
quarterly Parent-Teacher conference. Parents came to pick up
report cards, meet with their children’s teachers and become
familiar with the school.
Tessellations Task wins a
goal!

Students in Mrs. Milan’s fifth
grade class at Ripley Elementary School recently created
three-dimensional tessellations. A pattern of shapes that do not
gap or overlap, the tessellations varied in size and color and
challenged students to learn geometric properties and use
measurement skills. Vocabulary lessons were also incorporated
into the unit with a research of prefixes and word meanings.

EW James rewards fifth graders
for “Save That Receipt!” contest

Students in Ms. Kathi Graham’s
fifth-grade class at Ripley Elementary School were recently
given a party by the local E.W. James and Sons grocery store for
collecting the highest dollar amount in cash register receipts
from the store in February. Members of the class collected
almost $7,000 in the contest that raises funds for the school.
EW James provided cupcakes, cookies and drinks to the class.
The contest is still on! Area
residents can give their cash register receipts to any RES
student.
RES students prepare for TCAPs

Students at Ripley Elementary School are
preparing for TCAP. Posted in the halls are skills that can be
reviewed as students walk to their specialty classes.
