Rainy Day Recess

First graders in Beth Meeks room at HES don’t let a rainy day get them down. Meeks uses her laptop and a United Streaming Rainy Day Recess video to help her class exercise on days when it is too cold or rainy for recess. Class favorites include “Alphabet Rock” and “Follow the Leader.” “It gives them a chance to get some energy out,” said Meeks. “Then we can get back to work.”

Leadership Lauderdale visits HES

The Leadership Lauderdale group visited HES just before Christmas. Members of the Chamber’s leadership class toured the school, ate lunch, and enjoyed a presentation by Excel students. Entertainment included singing, playing the piano and performing skits.

Fourth grade Excel students at Halls Elementary School recently performed and original skit about Christmas for the Chamber’s Leadership Lauderdale Class.

The group was also treated to a performance by a sixth-grade student who shared an original song that he composed for the piano.

HES names top ten readers

Halls Elementary School recently congratulated its top ten Accelerated Readers for the second nine weeks of the 2006-2007 school year. Julie Hill and Adam Greer each achieved over 100 points each to be named first and second place, with Maddie Hutcherson, Jacob Smith, Alicia Freeman, Chelsy Aitken, Amber Spice, Hunter Burks, Keana Gooch and Ally Cherry also honored in the top ten. The PTO provided each winner with a $10 gift card.

HES and the Bee

Halls Elementary School recently held its annual Spelling Bee, with the top two students in each category moving on to represent their school in the county-wide Lauderdale County Spelling Bee. Winners were chosen in two grade-level categories. Kirsten Solomon won first place on the second and third grade level, with Mariah Carmack earning second place and Trey Fain named alternate. In the fourth through sixth grade category, Mandy McClellen won first place, with Kelsey Yarbrough placing second and Cole Nichols named alternate. The county bee will be hosted by HES on January 30.
