Winner named in Math-a-Thon

Halls Elementary School student Maddie Hutcherson recently
received an MP3 player as winner of the St. Jude Math-a-thon at
HES. She collected $611 of the $7,050 HES students earned during
this year’s event.
Racing to
read and write

To kick
off Young Author’s Day, first graders at Halls Elementary School
were recently visited by a local racing team: Goodwin Racing and
Hargett Racing. The racers told the children about racing
safety, showed them parts of the cars and shared how they began
racing. A tour of the car trailer for a close-up look at the
cars completed the exciting program.
The ABC’s of the airplane

The
students in Mrs. Beth Meeks and Mrs. Tracie Taylor’s first-grade
classes at HES are reading about the adventures of Amelia
Earhart. As a part of the unit, a parent from Mrs. Tracie’s
class came and demonstrated how to make a paper airplane. After
the students completed their airplanes, the two classes went
outside and flew their planes, taking advantage of a beautiful
spring day.
Book Fair sales are “Buy The Book!”

Halls Elementary School recently completed its
Scholastic Book Fair, earning over $9,000 to make it the
school’s most successful book fair to date. Proceeds from the
event will be used to buy books, AR tests and other items for
the school library. Many activities and contests were held in
association with the book fair, including Family Night, which
raised over $1,100 alone.
