LCS Board learns about status
of Energy Education
At its December school board meeting, members of the Lauderdale
County Board of Education discussed many issues, including the
status of its Energy Education program, new ways to use its
AlertNow system, and matters of school maintenance.
The board was treated to a presentation by Halls High School
Principal Andy Pugh, who recently traveled to Washington, D.C.
with HHS teacher Amanda Lane to receive the No Child Left

Sixth grade classes will soon
receive laptops

Lauderdale County teachers will soon be showing students how to
use their laptops when carts are added to each sixth grade class
throughout the system after Christmas break.
Sixth-grade classes throughout the Lauderdale
County School system will have the opportunity to use laptop
computers daily during the spring semester, thanks to the
Lauderdale County School System’s recent contract extension with

System gains grant for student
health
The Lauderdale County School System will soon
be able to address the fact that Tennessee stands first in the
nation in childhood obesity, thanks to its new Coordinated
School Health Grant. The system was one of only 19 in the state
to be awarded the grant, joining 10 pilot systems that already
have programs underway...more
Many participate in recent work
session

HHS principal Andy Pugh is pictured at the recent Lauderdale
Board of Education’s work session providing information to the
board on block scheduling and how it affects technology classes
offered at the school.
The Lauderdale County Board of Education’s recent work session
received a large turnout from many principals, teachers and
guidance counselors in the system. Participants provided
information to the school board concerning current the block
scheduling and math curriculum used in schools throughout the
county.
Board members were pleased with the number of faculty members
who took the time to attend and received a lot of valuable
information on the issues addressed. The board will meet Oct. 26
for its regular monthly meeting.
Teachers receive technology training

Approximately 65 teachers involved in Project L.E.A.D. programs
throughout the county were recently offered an afternoon of
computer technology training from Technology Systems Engineer
Jeff Belton. Project L.E.A.D. offers several days of
Professional Development to staff members involved in its
various programs. Some of the Halls Elementary teachers who
received the one-on-one training with Jeff Belton include (from

Allison Moore.
LCS extends
contract with Apple Computers
The Lauderdale County Board of Education
approved extending its contract with Apple Computers for
teacher’s laptops at its recent October meeting. In addition to
the contract, members of the District Office were able to
negotiate replacing the teacher’s present computers with updated
laptops, designating the present laptops for student use.
