Principal: Drayton Hawkins (dhawkins@mail.lced.net)

Drayton Hawkins was chosen to lead Ripley Primary School’s administrative team at the beginning of the 2009-2010 school year. A graduate of Ripley High School, Hawkins completed his Bachelor’s Degree in English at Tennessee State University and his Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Trevecca Nazarene University. He has also completed teacher education coursework at the University of Memphis.

Hawkins came home to Lauderdale County after serving as assistant principal at Sunny Hill Elementary School and assistant principal at Anderson Early Childhood Center, both in Brownsville. He also taught English, creative writing and computer classes and coached basketball, softball and volleyball at Haywood Junior High School from 1998-2006. He served as an educational assistant at Lauderdale Middle School in 1997.

He is married to Krystal Hawkins, and they have two sons.

Lillie Treadway began her teaching career in the Lauderdale County School System, where she taught third grade for nine years. For the past eight years, she has taught third grade for Dyersburg City Schools. She has served in many leadership roles, including on the Leadership Instructional Team, as a Superintendent Teacher Advisory, in the Tennessee School Improvement Planning Process and Tennessee Formative Assessment Program. She was a 2001 Teacher of the Year recipient for Lauderdale County and a 2008 Teacher of the Year recipient or Dyersburg City Schools. She earned a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Memphis, a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville, and obtained her education specialist degree (Ed. S) through Union University in 2007. She has also completed all her coursework toward her Doctorate at Union. Mrs. Treadway joined the RPS administrative team as assistant principal in the 2009-2010 school year. She and her husband, Bobby, have two daughters, Brandi and Jessica.


Curriculum Coordinator: Debbie Kennedy (DKennedy@mail.lced.net)

Debbie Kennedy was appointed Curriculum Coordinator at Ripley Primary School in 1992, after teaching first and third grades for 15 years. Kennedy earned both a Bachelor’s degree and a Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Tennessee at Martin. She later completed her certification in administration and supervision and is Career Ladder Level III teacher. She also recently earned a Graduate Certificate in Dyslexic Studies at Middle Tennessee State University.

Marnecia and the bee

Students representing every school in the Lauderdale County School System recently met at Halls Elementary School to take part in the Lauderdale County Spelling Bee.

Top spellers in each grade earned a chance to c-o-m-p-e-t-e on the county level and f-l-a-u-n-t their spelling f-l-a-i-r.

Marnecia Srackangast, a second-grade student from Mrs. Laura Dial’s room at Ripley Primary School, won the event.
 


RPS celebrates National School Board Week

Faculty, staff and students at Ripley Primary School recently invited members of the Lauderdale County School Board, Superintendent Joey Hassell and Assistant Superintendent Shawn Kimble, to lunch. The event was held in appreciation of National School Board Week.

Mrs. Teresa White’s second-grade class wrote invitations and made phone calls to the guests. The students also ate lunch with the guests. Table decorations were designed and constructed by pre-Kindergarten students of Mrs. Pam Langley and Mrs. Katrina Walker.

After lunch, each guest was presented a tray of cookies prepared by the Ripley Primary School cafeteria.
 


RPS students celebrate 100 days of fun

Students and teachers on the Ripley Primary School Blue Wing recently celebrated the 100th day of Kindergarten by dressing like they were 100 years old.

Blue Wing teachers participating in the event included Pam Reviere, Allison Phelps, Ernestine Henderson, Karen Harris, Brenda Harrell, Barbara Mann, Emilee Lemons and Mandy Hunter.
 


Chicka Chicka Boom Boom!

Miss Beth Simpson’s Kindergarten class recently brought a little tropical sunshine in the midst of some very cold weather. Students performed the song and dance “Chicka Chicka Boom Boom” - a song about the ABC’s - for PTO members at their regular monthly meeting.
 


LEAD-ing the way in technology

Morning Project Lead classes taught by Christina Cleek and Frances Young at Ripley Primary School are LEAD-ing the way in technology. The students recently used technology like this for their Accelerated Reader story.


Helping Haiti

The generous hearts and helping hands of first graders in Ms. Melissa Helton’s class at Ripley Primary School were recently felt across the world.

After hearing about the tragedy in Haiti from their teacher, they wanted to know what they could do to help. The students cheerfully donated bandages, pain medicines, blankets, baby formula and more.

The class also learned interesting facts about earthquakes.
 


Gingerbread Caper returns to RPS

The Gingerbread Caper continues to delight audiences young and old at Ripley Primary School. This Christmas season, Mrs. Teresa White’s second-grade class presented a traditional musical program, “The Gingerbread Kid Caper,” for parents and guests. After the performance, students also entertained guests with many of their favorite Christmas carols.


Festival of Trees

Students in Mrs. Pam Langley’s class at Ripley Primary School recently visited the Festival of Trees. Her class voted for the Candy Tree constructed by the Lauderdale Middle School. Their second choice was the “Books from Birth” tree.
 


Kindergarten students enjoy Christmas field trip

Kindergarten classes of Mrs. Barbara Mann, Miss Mandy Hunter, Mrs. Karen Harris and Mrs. Allison Phelps at Ripley Primary School went on a class field trip to see “The Festival of Trees.” The group later sang Christmas carols at Asbury Cove Assisted Living Center.
