Mrs. Latonya Jackson is a graduate of Ripley High School and
Dyersburg State Community College. Jackson also earned a degree
in Elementary Education from the University of Memphis. She
holds a Master’s degree with a focus on School Counseling from
the University of West Alabama, and she has completed coursework
in Educational Leadership through Trevecca Nazarene University.
She taught seventh-grade English and science in Tipton County
and served as the school counselor for Brighton Middle School.
She most recently served as interim assistant principal at
Lauderdale Middle School for the second semester of the
2009-2010 school year. Mrs. Jackson and her family reside in
Lauderdale County.

Mrs. Latonya Jackson is a graduate of Dyersburg State Community
College and the University of Memphis with a degree in
elementary education. She holds a master’s degree with a focus

a Ripley High School graduate, Mrs. Jackson has taught seventh-grade English and science in Tipton County, and before coming to LMS, she served as the school counselor for Brighton Middle

Scott King is a graduate of Ripley High School, and he has
served his alma mater as Director of Bands since July 2007.
Prior to working in Lauderdale County, he served as an assistant
band director at Adamsville High School from January 1999
through May 2007. King attended Dyersburg State Community
College, and he holds a Bachelor’s degree from the University of
Tennessee-Martin. His Master’s degree is in Educational
Leadership from Trevecca Nazarene University. Mr. King and his
family reside in Lauderdale County.

Vanessa Spoon was chosen to serve on the Lauderdale Middle
School’s administrative team at the beginning of the 2009-2010
school year. Spoon worked in the Trenton Special School District
for 10 years as a kindergarten and second-grade teacher. She
joined the Lauderdale County School District in 2002, teaching
first and second grade and serving as project LEAD tutor for
four years before joining the administrative team at Ripley
Primary School as Curriculum Coordinator. She holds an Associate
of Science Degree from Jackson State Community College, a
Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education from Union
University and a Master’s Degree in Leadership from the
University of Memphis. She is a member of the Alpha Delta Kappa
Honorary Teacher Fraternity and the Lauderdale County Education
Association.

Cindy
Anderson is a graduate of Ripley High School, and she has worked
in Lauderdale County Schools in various capacities since 1987.
Named Teacher of the Year at Lauderdale Middle School in 2000
and 2010, and she was also recognized as the Tennessee
Association of Student Councils’ Middle Level Advisor of the
Year in 2003 and 2008. Anderson has been a member of the school
improvement team, and Project L.E.A.D. Site-Coordinator. She
holds a Bachelor’s degree from Southwestern Oklahoma State
University. Mrs. Anderson and her family reside in Lauderdale
County.

New administrators named at Lauderdale Middle
Schools
Mrs. Latonya Jackson has been named
principal of Lauderdale Middle School for the 2010-2011 school
year. Lauderdale County Superintendent of Schools Joey Hassell
recently announced Jackson’s appointment to serve at LMS.
Jackson is one of three new principals in the Lauderdale County
system.
A graduate of Ripley High School and Dyersburg State Community

Mr. Scott King will be the new assistant principal at Lauderdale
Middle School, with longtime LMS educator Cindy Anderson LMS
administrative team. They are two of four new administrators
assigned to aid the principals positioned at Lauderdale County
Schools.
“Change always presents challenges,” said Hassell. “However, I
am grateful to the newest school leaders in Lauderdale County.
Each leader exhibits integrity, dedication, organization, and
dependability. And all three individuals are energized and
focused on building collaborative school cultures that are
responsive to the children of Lauderdale County.”

LMS names new band director

Students at Lauderdale Middle School will soon be
making sweet music with a new band director and music teacher
joining the school for the 2010-2011 academic year.
Rodriquis Harden was recently named as LMS’s new
band director and music teacher. Mr. Harden will begin his
tenure with the Lauderdale County School System in August. He
will also be assisting Mr. King with the RHS Band.
This spring, Harden began his transition from
Munford Middle School, where he held an interim position.
Introducing himself to the school and community, he met with
students, parents, staff, and community members.
Harden received his bachelor’s degree in Music
Education from the University of Memphis. His experience
includes staff positions with the award-winning Munford High
School Band, the University of Memphis “Mighty Sound of the
South” and assisting in the development of middle school
musicianship at Munford Middle School. In addition, he has
experience in middle school choir. His instrument of choice is
the saxophone but he is well suited for developing high-quality
musicianship for all instruments.
LMS names new football coach

Christopher Thone will join Lauderdale Middle School as the
new head football coach.
Coach Thone completed his first year teaching physical
education at LMS in the 2009-2010 academic year, serving as
assistant football coach during last year’s football season. He
is also the head softball coach at LMS.
Coach Thone received his bachelor’s degree in Physical
Education from the University of Memphis. Over the past five
years, Coach Thone has held a staff position with “Bridges,” a
national organization dedicated to building young leaders to
advance racial, economic, educational and environmental justice.
He has also held a staff position with the Murry State Racers as
equipment manager. During his high school years Coach Thone was
a defensive lineman for the Cordova Wolves. The team made it to
the play-offs every year.
