Andy Pugh is a graduate of Halls High School, where he has served as principal since 1995. He has been at either Halls Junior High or Halls High School since 1970 where he taught and served as football and baseball coach over the years before becoming the administrator. He holds degrees from Union University and Trevecca Nazarene College. From 2002-2005 he served as TSSAA District Coordinator. In 2005, he was inducted into the TSSAA Hall of Fame, served as the TSSAA Athletic Director for District 8, and was named Principal of the Year. He and his wife Donna have two children, Amanda Harris and Angela Pugh, and one grandson, Cole Harris.

Jimmy Clendenin is a graduate of Dyersburg High School and has taught U.S. History and American Government at Halls High School since 2006. He also taught at the Lauderdale County Optional/Alternative School from 1997-2006. He has served as a head coach or an assistant coach with baseball, basketball, and golf while working in Lauderdale County. Clendenin received his Bachelor of Science degree in Secondary Education (Social Studies) from the University of Tennessee-Martin, and he holds a Master’s in Educational Leadership from Trevecca Nazarene University. Mr. Clendenin and his family reside in Lauderdale County.

HHS band members present their annual exhibition

Shortly before the school year began, the Halls High School Golden Tiger Marching Band held its annual “After Camp Exhibition.” The event, the first peek of the new show for the 2010 Marching season, was enjoyed by many parents and friends.

Clendenin named assistant principal at HHS

Mr. Jimmy Clendenin will be the new assistant principal at Halls High School for the 2010-2011 school year. He is one of four new administrators assigned to aid the principals positioned at Lauderdale County Schools.

“Each of these individuals are committed, energized, and focused on supporting each school’s principal,” said Hassell.

A graduate of Dyersburg High School, Clendenin has taught U.S. History and American Government at Halls High School since 2006. He also taught at the Lauderdale County Optional/Alternative School from 1997-2006. He has served as a head coach or an assistant coach with baseball, basketball, and golf while working in Lauderdale County. HHS seniors say farewell

Halls High School held commencement services on the football field at 7 p.m., on Friday, May 21. Inclement weather predicted early in the week held off for seniors and their families, who were awarded a beautiful evening to celebrate the significant milestone under the evening sky.

HHS seniors were addressed by Lauderdale County Superintendent of Schools Joey Hassell and HHS Principal Andy Pugh before receiving their diplomas and celebrating the event by singing the HHS Alma Mater and throwing their caps in the air.

HHS announces scholarship and award winners

 

Halls High School announced its 2010 senior scholarship and award winners at its annual Senior Awards Ceremony, held in the gym on May 12. Seniors in the Class of 2010 were offered over $375,000 in scholarship funding to pursue their dreams of a higher education.

Planting seeds for the future

In recognition of Earth Day, the Halls Elementary School Pre-K group came to the Halls High School Greenhouse to plant flowers. Ms. Willette’s AgriScience class sponsored this visit. The AgriScience students helped the Pre K group plant a flower to take home. The Pre-K students were encouraged to remember Earth Day as they cared for their plants at home. The Ag students also explained the importance of Earth Day and planted a different kind of seed for the future of the environment by sparking an interest with the next generation of students.
 


NHS bids farewell to seniors, inducts new officers

The Halls High School National Honor Society recently held its annual Senior Farewell Reception at First United Methodist Church.

During the ceremony, the seniors reflected upon their favorite memories and spoke of their hopes and dreams for the future.

New officers were then installed to carry on the National Honor Society tradition. They include Presidents Dalton Gean and Lateia Humphrey, Vice President Shelby Parsonson, Secretary Krista Hardy, Treasurer Ashlee Nichols, Historian Ebone Pearson and Reporter
Madison Davis.

 


Bases Loaded!

The bases were loaded at Halls High School during the fourth annual Faculty vs. Student Baseball Game.

The Senior class of 2010 won against the Juniors and Freshmen, earning the chance to play against their teachers. Overall, the HHS faculty achieved victory, with a score of 4-2.

The students of Halls High School enjoyed the chance to get out of their fourth block classes and have some fun in the sun while watching America’s favorite pastime.


A Black Tie Affair

Halls High School recently held its Junior-Senior Prom at the Lannom Center in Dyersburg. The theme this year was “The Black Tie Affair,” and the colors pink, silver, and black were incorporated into the beautiful decorations.

Students of HHS greatly enjoyed the variety of music as they danced the night away in anticipation of the 2010 Prom King and Queen. These titles went to Seniors Qaylon Smith and Jessie Ellison (not pictured).
