Education – First 149 Days (90-Day Plan)
I have almost completed my first 149 days of listening and
learning in Lauderdale County. I present this report to the
Board of Education to highlight what I have heard and observed
as well as recommendations for accelerating our efforts, and in

Reception honors Lauderdale
County educators

Educators in Lauderdale County enjoy a reception honoring their
own in the Commons area of Ripley Elementary School. The regular
May School Board meeting followed the event.
New administrators join LCS
Central Office staff

New Superintendent of Lauderdale County Schools Joey Hassell
has made some changes in the positions of several members of the
system’s Central Office staff.
In an effort to streamline Lauderdale County Schools
personnel and adjust to positions left vacant by retiring
educators within the Central Office Staff, Hassell recently
appointed Jimmy Meeks as Transportation/Attendance/Safety
Supervisor, Jennifer Jordan as Special Education Supervisor,
Sherrie Sweat as Secondary/Vocational Supervisor and Shawn
Kimble as Assistant Superintendent.
Staff members were honored at a reception at Ripley
Elementary School in mid-May.
Lauderdale County honors tenured

Teachers earning tenure in the Lauderdale County School
System were honored at a reception this month in the Ripley
Elementary School Commons.
Teachers earning tenure include Kathleen Barkley, Bethany
Biggers, Katie Dratnol, Samantha Dunavant, Aline Dyson, Nicole
Keltz, Lisa Lange, Heather Lovelace, Blaine Mahaffey, Linda
McKinnie, Melissa Meeks, Shawna Moore, Jamie Reynolds and
Kristen Throgmorton.
April meeting
adopts textbooks, approves tenure
The Lauderdale County School Board was busy at its regular
April meeting.
The group met in the board room at Ripley Elementary School
on April 2, addressing issues including student accident
insurance, budget amendments, the student dress code and the use
of personal communication devices and electronic devises within

Writing Project
benefits local students

The West Tennessee Writing Project has found a spot closer to
home as the young writer’s program expands to include a site at
the University of Tennessee at Martin’s Ripley Center.
Ripley Primary School’s Jenny Brandon and Dyersburg Middle
School teacher Becky Hasselle recently led a dozen young writers
from Ripley, Halls and Covington for the day to create April
